The abo co-op designed the Visitor Center Reception Desk at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) to fulfill two purposes: to provide a reception area to house the volunteer docents and a security entrance.

The desk was designed with sustainable and recycled materials such as stainless steel, recycled countertops, and recycled plastic. Natural daylighting was incorporated into the reception area using Solatube® daylighting systems with special controls for dimming light and LED backup lighting for evening.
